Bolton Raid Instigated By Foreign Govt Hack Into His AOL Account, FBI Affidavit Says

The FBI has released the affidavit used to obtain a search warrant for former Trump national security adviser John Bolton's home, sparking questions about the government's methods and motives. Agents swarmed Bolton's residence last month, claiming it was part of a "national security probe." The raid has left many wondering what really went on behind closed doors.

FBI Director Kash Patel took to Twitter to declare, "NO ONE is above the law... @FBI agents on mission." However, MSNBC's Katy Tur noted that much of the affidavit remains heavily redacted. Justice and intelligence correspondent Ken Dilanian shed light on one crucial section: "Hack of John Bolton's AOL account by a Foreign Government." This revelation has raised eyebrows, as it suggests that US authorities obtained Bolton's emails from an adversarial foreign government.

According to sources close to the matter and The New York Times reporting, the US government acquired Bolton's emails, some of which came from an unnamed foreign adversary. These emails contained sensitive information that led to concerns about his handling of classified materials. This incident occurred during the Biden administration, when the Justice Department reviewed the evidence.

Despite their findings, the Biden Justice Department ultimately decided not to bring charges against Bolton or conduct a search of his home. The decision was reportedly influenced by concerns over the sensitivity of how they acquired the information. Moreover, revealing that they obtained the emails from a foreign government may have compromised national security, as this foreign entity now knows that their systems were accessed.

"We don't know what the evidence is, but it was enough to convince two separate federal judges that there was probable cause to believe a crime had been committed," Dilanian explained. Notably, Bolton himself was never arrested or charged with any crime.

Tur summarized Dilanian's explanation, asking for clarity: "Just to be clear, we hacked into a foreign government that was hacking into John Bolton?" The implications of this revelation are far-reaching and raise fundamental questions about the US government's use of surveillance and intelligence gathering methods.
