Show HN: Old-school Napster interface on top of Spotify API
Get ready to take a trip down memory lane as a team of developers has recreated the iconic Napster v2.0 client from back in the day, but with a modern twist – it's now built on top of the Spotify API!
The new interface is designed to transport users back to the nostalgic Windows 98 era, complete with all its classic aesthetics and charm. From the familiar color palette to the sleek design elements, this retro-inspired client brings back memories of dial-up internet and MP3 files.
But what about the music? Don't worry, the Spotify API has got you covered! This project seamlessly integrates with your Spotify account, allowing users to search for artists, play songs, and even create playlists right from within the Napster-style interface. It's a match made in heaven – old-school charm meets modern music streaming.
To make this retro-futuristic client work, the developers have had to jump through some hoops. First, they've added their personal touches by copying the NEXTAUTH_SECRET into your .env.local file (make sure it's HTTPS-enabled for Spotify OAuth). Next, they've updated the NEXTAUTH_URL and Spotify redirect URI with the ngrok URL – don't worry if that sounds like gibberish; just make sure to update these values correctly.
The color palette is defined in tailwind.config.ts, which means all Win98-styled components are built using Tailwind utilities. It's clear that the team has put a lot of thought into recreating this vintage aesthetic while still making it functional and user-friendly.

Last but not least, a heartfelt thank you to all those who installed viruses on their parents' computers back in the day. This project was made with ❤️ just for them (and for anyone else who grew up during that wild time).
