Lefty St. John's Law Student Attacks Cardinal Dolan as 'Bootlicking Disgrace' in Profane Anti-Trump Rant
A shocking incident has come to light at a Catholic law school, where a student allegedly attacked the leader of New York's nearly 3 million Catholics with profanity-laced insults. St. John's University Law School student Vishal Balani, who works part-time for the New York Yankees, is under fire for publicly and profanely insulting Timothy Cardinal Dolan as "sickening" and accusing him of being a "bootlicking disgrace" due to his perceived ties with President Donald Trump.
According to NYC Councilman Robert Holden, who has been tracking Balani's online activities, the student posted these scathing comments on X (formerly known as Twitter) on February 22. The post not only targeted Cardinal Dolan but also relentlessly ripped conservative politicians and officials on social media for over a year, with Holden describing it as "unrelenting" and "despicable."
Balani, 26, graduated from New York University in 2022 with a bachelor's degree in sports management and started law school in August. Despite taking down the offending post, his online activities have sparked outrage among community leaders and sparked concerns about his fitness for the legal profession.
Holden fired off a letter Monday to Jelani Jefferson Exum, the law school's dean, alleging Balani's conduct raises serious questions about his ability to practice law. The councilman claimed that Balani's "conduct not only contradicts St. John's … values, but also questions his fitness for the legal profession, necessitating your immediate review and disciplinary response."
The letter also targeted Balani's employer, the New York Yankees, where he works as a part-time special events staffer. Holden wrote to the human resources department of the Yankees, demanding that the team take disciplinary action against Balani for violating conduct policies.
The Yankees confirmed that they received the letter and have taken steps to address the issue. Aryn Sobo, the Yankees' vice president of Human Resources, wrote an email to Holden stating that while Balani denied being responsible for the offending posts, the team had encouraged him to be more thoughtful and respectful in his online activities.
Balani's LinkedIn profile highlights him as a "resourceful sports business professional contributing to major sporting events and improving lives through the power of sport." However, his online conduct has raised serious questions about his suitability for the role.
St. John's University confirmed that it received Holden's letter but was prohibited by federal privacy laws from taking further action. Balani also declined to comment on the matter.
As this controversy continues to unfold, one thing is clear: Vishal Balani's actions have sparked a heated debate about free speech, online conduct, and the role of social media in shaping our public discourse.
