# Samsung Electronics Claims First Place in U.S. Government-Sponsored AI Cyber Challenge

Samsung Electronics is proud to announce that it has emerged victorious in the finals of the AI Cyber Challenge (AIxCC), a prestigious competition hosted by the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA) and held on August 8th in Las Vegas. This highly anticipated event, which took place during DEF CON 33, a major hacking and security conference, brought together some of the world's top researchers and tech companies to engage in an intense AI security technology competition.

The AI Cyber Challenge is considered one of the most significant AI security competitions globally, with a total prize pool of $22.5 million up for grabs. The finals saw seven teams from various countries, including universities, research institutions, and global tech companies, compete against each other to demonstrate their expertise in AI-based security technology.

Samsung participated in the competition as Team Atlanta, a joint team led by Samsung Research, the Device eXperience (DX) Division's advanced research institute. This collaborative effort brought together security experts from leading global universities, including the Georgia Institute of Technology, Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology, and Pohang University of Science and Technology.

Team Atlanta's impressive performance in the competition was led by Vice President of Samsung Research, Taesoo Kim, who stated, "Samsung Electronics was able to achieve meaningful results by demonstrating its AI-based security technology capabilities at a global security technology competition. We will continue to expand collaboration with global security experts to further advance Samsung Electronics' security technology proficiency."

One of the key factors that contributed to Team Atlanta's success was their ability to detect an unintended vulnerability in the semifinals, showcasing their exceptional technical capabilities. They then repeated this feat in the finals, demonstrating world-class security technology capabilities without any human intervention.

The finals evaluated each team's ability to analyze source code vulnerabilities and apply security patches using AI-powered security technologies alone. Team Atlanta's outstanding performance earned them the honor of first place, with a prize of $4 million.

With this achievement, Samsung plans to develop next-generation security solutions powered by AI that can autonomously identify and mitigate security vulnerabilities. This will enable continuous enhancement of products and service security, providing users with an added layer of protection against cyber threats.

In the words of Taesoo Kim, "We are committed to advancing our security technology capabilities through collaboration with global security experts." With this commitment, Samsung Electronics is poised to remain at the forefront of AI-based security technology, providing innovative solutions that will shape the future of cybersecurity.
