SentinelOne Acquires AI Security Startup Prompt Security
Today, SentinelOne Inc. announced plans to acquire Prompt Security Ltd., a cutting-edge startup with a revolutionary platform for protecting workers from risky artificial intelligence applications. The acquisition price was not disclosed, but Globes reported that the deal values Prompt Security at $250 million to $300 million, more than 10 times what the startup has raised from investors.
The transaction is expected to close by November and will mark a significant expansion of SentinelOne's AI-powered cybersecurity platform. The acquisition brings on board Prompt Security's innovative technology, which helps enterprises mitigate the risks associated with third-party AI services.
About Prompt Security
Prompt Security's platform installs a browser extension on employee devices that determines what AI applications are used by a company's workforce. From there, the platform identifies applications and user accounts that may pose a cybersecurity risk. Administrators can regulate which team may use what AI service, or block a service outright.
The platform also includes features to mitigate risks posed by programming assistants, such as automatic code scanning for vulnerabilities and monitoring of developers' compliance with data protection policies. Additionally, Prompt Security's third focus is on helping companies protect their custom AI applications from hacking campaigns, including denial-of-wallet attacks.
About SentinelOne
SentinelOne Inc. sells a cybersecurity platform called Singularity that uses AI to scan corporate networks for malware and detect hacking attempts across cloud environments, employee devices, and other systems. The platform also automates several tasks involved in remediating breaches.
With the acquisition of Prompt Security, SentinelOne will integrate its technology into its Singularity cybersecurity platform, unlocking a new frontier of platform expansion and representing a significant step forward in its AI strategy.
Market Trend
This acquisition is part of a growing trend of established market players acquiring AI cybersecurity startups. In April, Palo Alto Networks Inc. bought Protect AI Inc. for over $500 million, while Snyk Inc. recently acquired Invariant Labs AG, a Swiss developer of open-source AI security tools.
CEO's Comments
"This acquisition unlocks a new frontier of platform expansion for SentinelOne and represents a step forward in our AI strategy – from AI for security to security for AI," said Tomer Weingarten, CEO of SentinelOne. "We're excited to bring Prompt Security's innovative technology on board and continue to push the boundaries of AI-powered cybersecurity."
