Merge branch 'cb/no-tcl86-on-macos': Protecting against AI Scrapers
You are seeing this page because the administrator of this website has set up Anubis, a powerful tool designed to protect our server from the scourge of AI companies aggressively scraping websites. While this measure may cause occasional downtime for some users, it's a necessary compromise to ensure that our resources remain accessible to everyone.
Anubis operates on a Proof-of-Work scheme similar to Hashcash, a proposed solution aimed at reducing email spam. At an individual scale, the additional load is negligible, but when used by large-scale scrapers, it becomes increasingly expensive and challenging. In essence, Anubis serves as a "good enough" placeholder solution that allows our team more time to focus on fingerprinting and identifying headless browsers – such as those employing font rendering techniques.
However, Anubis does come with some caveats. To fully utilize this feature, you'll need to disable plugins like JShelter, which may block modern JavaScript features required for the challenge proof-of-work page. Unfortunately, this means that users will need to enable JavaScript to bypass the obstacle and continue browsing our site.
It's worth noting that the rise of AI companies has significantly altered the social contract around website hosting. In light of these changes, a no-JS solution is still a work-in-progress. Our team is committed to finding innovative solutions to address this issue and ensure that all users can access our content without any obstacles.
At present, we are running Anubis version 1.20.0 on our server. We appreciate your understanding and cooperation in this matter. If you encounter any difficulties or have questions about Anubis, please don't hesitate to reach out to us.
