Ukrainian Hackers Claim to Have Destroyed Major Russian Drone Maker's Entire Network
In a bold move, Ukrainian hackers known as BO Team (also referred to as Black Owl) have claimed to have taken down one of Russia's largest suppliers of drones, Gaskar Integration plant. According to the hacking collective, they "deeply penetrated" the drone manufacturer's network "to the very tonsils of demilitarization and denazification," effectively crippling its ability to produce and supply drones to the Russian army.
Gaskar Integration is one of the largest suppliers of drones for Russia's military, with China providing significant assistance in the production and training of specialists for the company. However, BO Team's attack has dealt a major blow to this partnership, leaving thousands of drones on the brink of delivery to the front lines.
BO Team announced their operation on its Telegram channel, stating that they worked alongside Ukrainian hackers known as the Ukrainian Cyber Alliance and "one very well-known organization" to carry out the attack. The nature of this second organization has not been disclosed, but it is rumored to be a significant player in the cyber war between Ukraine and Russia.
The attackers claim to have carried out large-scale work to capture the entire network and server infrastructure of Gaskar Group, collecting valuable information about the production of Russian drones and prospective models. This intelligence was then used to destroy the information and disable the infrastructure, resulting in the loss of 47TB of technical data related to drone production.
BO Team also claims to have destroyed all of the information on Gaskar's servers, including 10TB of backup files. In addition, they posted what they claim to be confidential employee questionnaires as a form of proof, further solidifying their assertion that they were successful in their attack.
"By the way, from the information we received, China is providing assistance in the production and training of specialists of Gaskar Group," the hackers added via Telegram. This revelation has significant implications for Russia's military-industrial complex, as it suggests that Chinese involvement could be a factor in the disruption of drone supply chains.
The Ukrainian Cyber Alliance also stole "all the source code" from Gaskar's servers before destroying everything. According to their Telegram post, "the network went down so thoroughly that the doors in the building were blocked." The administration had to turn on the fire alarm to access the premises, indicating a severe disruption to the company's operations.
"To open them, the administration had to turn on the fire alarm," wrote the pro-Ukraine crew. "Most likely, the defense order is on the verge of failure, and thousands of drones will not get to the front in the near future." The consequences of this attack are still being felt, with many wondering how Russia's military will adapt to the loss of its primary drone supplier.
No response has been received from Gaskar or the Ukrainian Ministry of Defence regarding these allegations. However, the impact of BO Team and the Ukrainian Cyber Alliance's operation on Russia's drone industry is clear: a major disruption that could have far-reaching consequences for the country's military capabilities.
