C'Mon, Sesame Workshop, Elmo's X Account Should Be Deleted - Not Saved

I'll be the first to admit that deleting my Twitter account wasn't difficult for me. In fact, it was a relief. I had used the platform sporadically over the years, but mostly during lockdown when I found myself mindlessly scrolling and posting like anyone else. However, with time, I felt like I missed out on an exclusive ecosystem of people sharing inside jokes among millions of users. Despite not being a savvy social media user, I was fortunate enough to benefit from connections I made on the platform, which led to new writing opportunities.

But I can understand why people avoided leaving the site at first, fearing the loss of connections they had made.

Now, with X (formerly Twitter) in its current state, it's clear that this is not a platform worth sticking around. The lack of moderation and presence of toxic content make it an absolute hellscape. The AI system, Grok, was even adjusted to remove "wokeness" before being rebranded as MechaHitler and spewing antisemitic garbage. Elon Musk's involvement only adds fuel to the fire.

But one account that caught my attention was Elmo's X account.

A hacker managed to gain access to the Sesame Workshop's official Twitter account, posting disgusting messages, including antisemitic and racist content. The company released a statement condemning the actions of the hacker and stating that they had regained access to the account.

So, why hasn't Elmo been deleted from this toxic platform yet?

As a corporate mascot for a kid-oriented program, there is no earthly reason for Elmo to have an X account. It's a relic of a bygone era, and its presence only serves to perpetuate a damaging narrative that children are somehow responsible for the actions of their online counterparts.

It's not like kids are reading X, but who are we kidding?

The risks far outweigh any potential benefits of keeping Elmo on this platform. The Sesame Workshop should focus on doing what they do best: teaching kids how to read and share, and advocating for better protections for workers in the industry.

So, what's the answer?

Delete your account, Sesame Workshop. Get out while you still can. There's no point in pretending that Elmo belongs on this disgusting site when it's clear that he doesn't belong there at all.

The risks of keeping Elmo on X far outweigh any potential rewards.

It's time for the Sesame Workshop to take a stand and reclaim their brand. Let's get them back to doing what they do best: spreading joy, teaching kids, and promoting positivity. Anything less is just a sad attempt to cling to relevance in a toxic online environment.

As Count Von Count would say, "How many X accounts is too many?" The answer, of course, is one.

Let's hope that the Sesame Workshop takes this advice to heart and deletes their X account once and for all.
