Call of Duty: WWII's Game Pass PC Version Was Pulled, Reportedly After Hacking Issues
Just days after its release on the Microsoft Store's Game Pass, Activision has pulled the PC version of Call of Duty: WWII offline. The move comes shortly after severe hacking claims surfaced online, with gamers reporting issues with their PCs being taken control of through Remote Code Execution (RCE) attacks.
Call of Duty players are no strangers to hacking situations in multiplayer and Warzone, but these recent hacks were different from the usual aimbots or wall hackers. Instead, they involved RCE attacks, which allowed malicious actors to gain control over players' PCs. A similar attack was made public last year when Dark Souls 3 was taken offline due to a security exploit.
Some Call of Duty enthusiasts took to social media to share videos and clips of their own PCs being hacked while playing WWII. One such clip, posted by the user "Wrioh," showed an apparent RCE attack during a multiplayer match. The viral clip sparked concerns among the gaming community, leading many to call out Activision for not acknowledging these security risks sooner.
Activision's response was limited to a simple Twitter post on July 4, stating that Call of Duty: WWII had been pulled offline on PC while they investigate reports of "an issue." However, there is no mention of when the game will return to PC, leaving fans wondering if they'll ever be able to play the game again without worrying about hacking issues.
In the meantime, players have plenty of other Call of Duty games to keep them occupied. Black Ops 6 and Warzone are both featuring new Season 4 Reloaded content, including new game modes, cel-shaded map variants, and a limited-time event inspired by Beavis and Butt-Head. Additionally, Call of Duty Mobile is teaming up with Gundam for some limited-time modes.
And if you're eagerly awaiting the latest installment in the Call of Duty series, don't worry – Black Ops 7 launches later this year for PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, and PC. The game's full reveal is set to come later this summer, so stay tuned for more updates.
