# Mark Zuckerberg Announces Creation of Meta Superintelligence Labs

In a bold move to cement its position as a leader in artificial intelligence, Mark Zuckerberg has announced the creation of Meta Superintelligence Labs (MSL), a new organization dedicated to developing superintelligence.

In an internal memo obtained by CNBC, Zuckerberg outlined his vision for MSL and the significant investment he plans to make in AI research and development. "As the pace of AI progress accelerates, developing superintelligence is coming into sight," he wrote. "I believe this will be the beginning of a new era for humanity, and I am fully committed to doing what it takes for Meta to lead the way."

MSL will be led by some of Meta's most recent hires, including Scale AI ex-CEO Alexandr Wang and former GitHub CEO Nat Friedman. Zhang will serve as Chief AI Officer and will oversee the development of all AI-related initiatives within Meta.

Friedman will lead the work on AI products and applied research, working closely with other teams to define the company's roadmap for AI. His extensive experience in leading innovation-driven companies makes him an ideal fit for this role.

In addition to Wang and Friedman, several new team members are joining MSL today or have joined in the past few weeks. These talented individuals bring a wealth of expertise and knowledge to the table, ensuring that Meta is well-positioned to deliver on its promise of personal superintelligence for everyone.

"We're excited about the progress we have planned for Llama 4.1 and 4.2," Zuckerberg wrote in his memo. "These models power Meta AI, which is used by more than 1 billion monthly actives across our apps and an increasing number of agents across Meta that help improve our products and technology."

Furthermore, MSL will be focused on developing the next generation of models, with a goal to achieve superintelligence within the next year or so. Zuckerberg has assembled a founding group for this effort, comprising top talent from Meta, other AI labs, and promising startups.

"Meta is uniquely positioned to deliver superintelligence to the world," Zuckerberg wrote. "We have a strong business that supports building out significantly more compute than smaller labs. We have deeper experience building and growing products that reach billions of people. And our company structure allows us to move with vastly greater conviction and boldness."

I'm optimistic that this new influx of talent and parallel approach to model development will set us up to deliver on the promise of personal superintelligence for everyone," he concluded.

Stay tuned as Meta continues to make significant strides in AI research and development, paving the way for a future where technology enhances humanity rather than controls it.
