Game of Thrones Season 3: What to Expect

The second season of Game of Thrones was met with a mixed response from fans and critics. While it had its moments, some viewers felt that the pacing was rushed and certain plot points were altered or omitted for the sake of the show. In an effort to improve upon last season's performance, HBO is moving forward with Season 3. Here are some key details about what to expect.

The Show Timeline

Craig Mazin has stated that there's "no way to complete this narrative in three seasons." This means that the show may not wrap up the story of the second game in the third season. Instead, Season 3 will likely play out much like the second half of the game, with viewers learning Abby's story.

Will They Take Feedback?

Not having Tommy witness Joel's death, the rushed Dina pregnancy dialogue, and how long it took Ellie to leave Jackson were all changes from game to show that led to online drama. While some of the backlash is from a troll subculture, there are also valid complaints about the pacing and how often this season felt like 12 episodes in a seven-episode box.

Meeting New Characters

The most notable character yet to be introduced on the show is Lev, who is Abby's closest ally. He's not exactly a talkative character, but that could change for the show. Expect him to pop up early, maybe even in the third season premiere.

Will They Be Loyal to the Game?

Mazin and Druckmann have said they didn't stray as far from the narrative of the game in the second season as some fans expected. However, this doesn't necessarily mean that Season 3 will stay entirely faithful to the source material.

The Return Date

While it's hard to say exactly when we'll meet Lev and learn more about Abby's story, many are hoping for a return in around two years. This would also give them time to address any concerns raised by fans of Season 2.
