FBI Agents Who Covered Up Hunter Biden's Laptop Must Not Get Away With It
The eve of the 2020 election, FBI agents discussed an active money-laundering case against Hunter Biden, but their actions raised serious questions about the agency's role in shaping public opinion on the matter. Newly redacted chat logs obtained by Sen. Chuck Grassley reveal that FBI agents were aware of a potential money laundering case against Hunter Biden just hours after casting doubt on the authenticity of his incriminating laptop.
At 5:28 p.m. on October 14, 2020, FBI agent Elvis Chan asked FBI analyst Peter Courtney about the status of the laptop investigation. Courtney replied that it was a "close hold" - a money laundering case involving Hunter Biden. Chan's response was evident in his tone, saying, "oh crap," and expressing concerns that the matter would be "ok. it ends here." The comments were made during an FBI meeting with Twitter about election interference.
The FBI had previously informed social media companies that they expected "hack-and-leak operations" by state actors, likely involving Hunter Biden. However, when The Post published bombshell emails from the laptop revealing Joe Biden's involvement in his son's lucrative influence-peddling schemes, the agency suddenly clammed up. They refused to confirm the existence of the laptop and instead allowed social media companies to conclude that the story was Russian disinformation.
This behavior by the FBI has been described as an election interference operation to protect Joe Biden and help him win the 2020 election. Despite the fact that Donald Trump is now in the White House, there has been little progress on unraveling one of the most egregious abuses of FBI power: coercing social media companies to censor The Post and cover up evidence of Biden corruption.
In a move to uncover the truth, Sen. Grassley demanded that the FBI remove redactions from chat logs that hid the fact they were investigating Hunter for money laundering back in October 2020. "I first began investigating the Biden family's questionable financial conduct in 2019 based on allegations of impropriety and conflicts of interest," he said.
However, during the same time period, the FBI provided Grassley and his Republican colleague Sen. Ron Johnson with a bogus briefing about their investigation, which was later leaked to the partisan media to falsely label it as Russian disinformation.
The chat log reveals that FBI deputy assistant director Bradley Benavides communicated with underling Laura Dehmlow about The Post's laptop story on October 14, 2020. "You guys are tracking the coverage of the laptop right?" Dehmlow asked. "Indeed," he replied. "I would love to know if a copy exists, and was it provided to anyone."
The real scandal, according to Sen. Grassley, is the way the DOJ and FBI colluded with the media to cover for the Biden family and tried to sweep it all under the rug with a sweetheart plea deal, until Hunter Biden was ultimately pardoned.
Agent Chan's actions have raised questions about who defied subpoenas issued by Congress. Members of Biden's White House "politburo" who covered up his cognitive decline also defied subpoenas from House Oversight Committee chairman James Comer last year. However, unlike Trump advisers Steve Bannon and Peter Navarro, who were jailed for not complying with congressional subpoenas from Nancy Pelosi's Jan. 6 committee, those individuals got away with snubbing their noses at Congress.
It's time for Republicans to get equally tough in holding public officials accountable.
