Messaging App Used by Mike Waltz, Trump Deportation Airline GlobalX Both Hacked in Separate Breaches
A shocking series of cyber attacks has left several high-profile targets reeling, as a communications app used by former Trump national security adviser Mike Waltz was forced to suspend services following a reported hack, while another airline at the center of the Trump administration's deportation efforts has also been targeted.
TeleMessage App Hacked, Suspended Services
TeleMessage, a messaging app used by Waltz, was left reeling after a security incident was exposed. In an email to users and journalists, Smarsh, the company behind TeleMessage, stated that it was investigating a potential security breach and had suspended all services "out of an abundance of caution." The news comes as controversy surrounding Waltz's use of TeleMessage to coordinate military updates has been making headlines.
According to reports, Waltz was spotted using an unofficial version of the popular encrypted messaging app Signal on his phone during a cabinet meeting. However, it appears that hackers were able to breach the system, exposing some user messages in the process.
GlobalX Air Targeted by Hackers
Meanwhile, GlobalX Air, one of the main airlines at the center of the Trump administration's deportation efforts, has also been targeted by hackers. According to a report from 404 Media, the airline was hacked and thieves stole flight records and passenger manifests for all its flights.
The data, which was made available to journalists including those from 404 Media, could provide granular insight into who exactly has been deported on GlobalX flights, when, and to where. The airline had been working closely with the Trump administration as part of its deportation efforts, facilitating the departure of hundreds of Venezuelans to El Salvador.
Anonymous, a well-known hacking group known for its use of the Guy Fawkes mask, has claimed responsibility for the breach. A defacement message posted to GlobalX's website reads: "Anonymous has decided to enforce the Judge's order since you and your sycophant staff ignore lawful orders that go against your fascist plans."
The brazen attack on GlobalX Air raises serious concerns about the security of sensitive information and the potential for abuse by those seeking to disrupt the administration's deportation efforts.
