Warhammer 40K: 3 Big Misses From Codex: Death Guard
The new 10th Edition Death Guard Codex has arrived, and while it's overall a strong release, there are three units that I believe the army is missing. As a fan of the faction, I was excited to dive into the codex and explore all the options available. However, after pouring over the book, I couldn't help but feel that some key units from the past were left out in the cold.
First up on my list is the cultist. Ah, the humble cultist – a staple unit that I believe should be present in any Chaos Marine-based army. They're cheap, effective, and provide a nice Battleline option for players looking to fill out their units. The Death Guard's Poxwalkers, while cool, just don't cut it as a direct replacement for this unit. I think it's time for the Death Guard to bring back the cultist, perhaps with some new twists or abilities to make them more interesting.
The second unit that I believe is missing from the codex is a default kind of Terminator Sorcerer or Plaguecaster option. With Typhus as the go-to psychic leader, it's clear that the Death Guard have a strong presence in this role. However, I think it would be awesome to see some new options for players who want to create unique Blightlord units or differentiate their Death Shroud teams from the norm. A Terminator Sorcerer or Plaguecaster unit would provide a much-needed injection of creativity and diversity into the army.
The final unit that I'm disappointed is missing from the codex is a Basic Chaos Lord option. Now, I know what you're thinking – "Why not just use the World Eaters codex?" Well, the thing is, the Death Guard used to have their own unique Chaos Lord unit, and I think it's time they brought it back. Imagine having a basic Chaos Lord that could provide some fun CP options or cool close combat abilities. It would be a great way to give players more flexibility and creativity when building their armies.
I want to emphasize that none of these units would need to disrupt the balance of the army, and they would actually help fill out those hard-to-hit points ranges. The Death Guard is an army that's all about having fun with conversions and creative builds, so I think it's time we saw some more options for players who want to get creative with their models.
Overall, while the Death Guard codex is a great release, there are definitely some gaps in terms of unit options. By adding these three units back into the fold, I believe the army would be even stronger and more diverse than it already is. Fingers crossed that Games Workshop takes note and adds them to the book in a future update!
