Carnival Cruise Line Warns Against Common Snack Hack
As a seasoned journalist, I've seen my fair share of questionable advice on social media. But none have been as alarming as the snacking habits being peddled by some popular TikTok creators.
John Heald, Carnival Cruise Line's Brand Ambassador, has become a regular champion against the spread of misinformation on these platforms. He's often called upon to debunk bad advice shared on TikTok and other social media outlets – and this time, he's tackling one snack hack that's got everyone talking.
The hack in question is simple: freezing your drink in an ice bucket with the cap removed, claiming it'll keep the beverage cold for hours. Sounds harmless, right? Wrong.
"This is a classic example of someone trying to save money or be clever, but ultimately ending up with a subpar experience," says Heald. "The reality is that freezing your drink in an ice bucket will not keep it cold for as long as you think – and it can even cause the flavors to degrade."
"We've had guests come back from their cruises with drinks that tasted flat and unpleasant, all thanks to this hack," he continues. "It's just not worth the risk, especially when there are so many other ways to keep your drink cold without sacrificing taste or quality."
So what's the real secret to keeping your drink cold at sea? According to Heald, it's much simpler than you think: "Just use a coolers bag or a insulated cup. It may cost a bit more upfront, but trust me, it's worth it."
"We're always happy to share our expertise with our guests and help them make the most of their cruise experience," says Heald. "But sometimes, it's just better to stick with tried-and-true methods – rather than trying to be clever or save a few bucks."
