'My Target is a mini Target': Woman Reveals Clever Hack to Score Discounts on Abandoned Carts
Before you check out of your online cart, wait to see if you get this discount. Abandoned cart discounts seem to be a thing, and one creative woman has cracked the code to securing these discounts with some patience.
The Trick: Exit Out of the Page Before Payment
Abrigail Resch, a hairdresser and TikTok creator (@itsabigailresch), shares her hack for snagging discounts on abandoned carts. Her approach is simple yet effective:
- Fill up your cart with whatever you need online.
- Go through the payment process until you reach the "pay now" page.
- Making sure to enter your email address somewhere in this process.
- Exit out of the page, without completing the payment.
Resch advises waiting a couple of days before checking if you receive an abandoned cart reminder with a discount. Most of the time, it seems to work, and you'll be rewarded with a savings offer.
Important Caveat: Small Businesses Don't Count
However, Resch makes it clear that this trick won't work for small businesses or independent stores. "Remember if it's a chain, it's free rein," she captions her video, leaving no doubt about the scope of her hack.
The Science Behind Abandoned Cart Discounts
Retail Me Not recently conducted an experiment to test the effectiveness of abandoned cart discounts. They filled up carts from 107 stores online and then abandoned them, discovering a 22% success rate in receiving follow-up emails with discounts.
The study found that abandoning their carts resulted in offers from 24 of these stores. While it may not seem like a lot, this experiment provides evidence that patient shoppers can indeed score discounts on their abandoned carts.
Viewers Weigh In: Success Stories and Skepticism
Internet users shared their experiences with abandoned cart discounts, ranging from success stories to skepticism. Some claimed that abandoning their carts resulted in email reminders with significant discounts, while others reported no response or conflicting offers from different stores.
"Sometimes it works for hotels too," said one user.
"Uber Eats does this all the time," another chimed in.
"Especially Aeropostale... 15% email off within minutes, bruh!"
"I get email reminders but never includes a discount. Guessing we are shopping at different stores."
Resch's hack may not work for everyone, and individual results may vary. Nevertheless, it's an intriguing strategy worth trying out for those looking to snag discounts on their online purchases.
