**Volvo Group Hit in Massive Conduent Data Breach**
A devastating data breach at business services provider Conduent has exposed sensitive information of nearly 17,000 employees of Volvo Group North America, bringing the total number of affected individuals to a staggering 25 million. The shocking revelation comes as part of a larger cyberattack that initially saw 10 million people's personal data compromised in January 2025.
Conduent, which provides printing, mailroom, document processing, payment integrity, and other back-office services to various clients, revealed that the breach occurred between October 21, 2024, and January 13, 2025. The hackers accessed the company's network during this period, stealing personal data of users, including Social Security numbers, dates of birth, addresses, and health information.
The Safepay ransomware group claimed responsibility for the attack in February 2025, stating that they had accessed Conduent's network and stolen sensitive data. Conduent has since notified affected individuals and is offering free identity protection services to those whose personal data may have been compromised.
Volvo Group North America confirmed that nearly 17,000 of its employees were impacted by the breach, with many more from various states across the country. Texas saw a massive surge in the number of affected individuals, jumping from 4 million to 15 million, while Oregon reported over 10 million people's data was compromised.
The breach has sparked concerns about the security measures in place at Conduent and its ability to protect sensitive information from cyber threats. The company initially reported that only 10 million people's personal data was affected but later revealed the true extent of the breach, affecting a total of 25 million individuals.
Conduent notified affected individuals on behalf of Volvo Group through a letter shared with the Maine Attorney General's office. The letter reads: "On behalf of our clients, Conduent Business Services, LLC (“Conduent”) provides third-party printing/mailroom services, document processing services, payment integrity services, and other back-office support services. We are writing to inform you about a recent incident experienced by Conduent that may have involved some of your personal information, which came into our possession due to the services that we provide to your current or former health plan."
While the company stated it was unaware of any attempted or actual misuse of the compromised data, they emphasized the importance of taking steps to protect oneself from potential identity theft. The breach serves as a stark reminder of the ongoing threat posed by cyberattacks and the need for robust security measures in place.
