**US Lender Warns 131,070 Americans After Customers' Personal Data Exposed in Third-Party Hack**

In a shocking revelation, a US lender has issued warnings to over 100,000 of its customers that their personal information is at risk following a devastating third-party data breach. The Illinois-based MidAmerica Credit Union (MACU) has disclosed that members who have been affected by the cyberattack are part of a much larger group of victims who have been impacted by the security incident.

According to new filings with Maine's Attorney General, Marquis Software Solutions, a vendor of MACU, was hit by a sophisticated hacking operation. The attackers managed to breach Marquis' network and access sensitive data stored on their systems. In total, an astonishing 131,070 individuals have been affected by the breach.

"On or about August 14, 2025, MACU was informed by Marquis Software Solutions – a vendor of MACU – that it had identified suspicious activity on its network and determined that the activity was the result of a cybersecurity incident," an investigation revealed. "It launched an investigation and determined that an unauthorized third party accessed Marquis' computing environment and may have accessed and acquired certain files from its systems."

The compromised data includes sensitive personal information such as first and last names, as well as Social Security Numbers. To mitigate the potential damage, MACU is offering affected customers 24 months of single bureau credit monitoring, fraud consultation, and identity theft restoration services. Marquis, in coordination with Epiq, has begun mailing notification letters to those who have been impacted.

The breach highlights the risks associated with relying on third-party vendors to manage sensitive data. As the number of cyberattacks continues to rise, lenders and financial institutions must prioritize the security of their customers' personal information. In this case, MACU's swift response and offer of support to affected customers demonstrate a commitment to protecting the trust of its members.

This incident serves as a stark reminder for individuals to remain vigilant and take proactive steps to protect themselves from identity theft. With the increasing frequency of data breaches, it is essential that consumers stay informed and take necessary precautions to safeguard their personal information.
